MONOCYTE DISTRIBUTION WIDTH; CAN IT BE USED AS AN EARLY DIAGNOSIS MARKER IN CASES OF ACUTE COMPLICATED APPENDICITIS? A PRELIMINARY STUDY

AİM : The aim of this study was to investigate the effectiveness monocyte distribution width in both diagnosis acute appendicitis (AA) and differentiating between simple (SA) complicated (CA).
 
 METHODS: This conducted using data from 107 adult patients who underwent appendectomy. Demographic details, preoperative white blood cell (WBC) count, immature granulocyte count (IG) percentage (IG %), (MDW), neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) pathology results were evaluated retrospectively. Patients grouped as AA normal appendix (NA) according reports, cases divided into SA CA groups intraoperative findings.
 RESULTS: WBC, IG, IG%, NLR MDW values found be statistically significant for differentiation (p < 0.05). Of these parameters, strongest parameter (sensitivity: 76%, specificity: 89%, p< 0.001). IG value 0.05)
 CONCLUSION: is a fast, reliable easily accessible AA. However, although high CA, they not significant. More comprehensive studies are needed clearer assessment.
